Municipality of Alabel, Sarangani Province

In many countries, a mayor  is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town.

Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Depending on the system chosen, a mayor may be the chief executive officer of the municipal government, may simply chair a multi-member governing body with little or no independent power, or may play a solely ceremonial role. Options for selection of a mayor include direct election by the public or selection by an elected governing council or board.

One of the pioneers of Alabel. The late Municipal Mayor Hon. Lucio J. Alaba served as the first local chief executive of Alabel from the year 1971 until 1986.

Second Municipal Mayor of Alabel

HERNANDO L. SIBUGAN†
(1987 - 1998)

Popularly known as Popoy. The late Hernando Lalisan Sibugan was appointed as OIC Mayor of Alabel by Ministry of Local Government after the ouster of strongman Ferdinand Marcos by EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986. He started the realization of making Alabel as a first-class municipality in Southern Mindanao. Basic services and recreational facilities were focused on Sibugan's term. In 1998, he ran as a board member of Sarangani Province represented the Alabelians.

Third Municipal Mayor of Alabel

NARCISO RA. GRAFILO JR.
(1998 - 2007)

Hon. Narciso Ra. Grafilo was a former Municipal Vice Mayor of Alabel before becoming a Municipal Mayor under Sibugan's administration. He ran as Municipal Mayor in 1998 and had a landslide victory over its opponent. Mayor Jun was also known as Tamaraw. Kasadyaan Festival, the town's civic celebration along with its founding anniversary was established in his term in 2001.

The only woman Mayor of Alabel. Hon. Corazon Sunga Grafilo was the wife of Narciso Grafilo Jr., her predecessor. Alabel's famous tagline ABANTE ALABEL started in his term. She was elected three times and served as mother of Alabel for nine years. Alabel signed Sisterhood Agreement to the City of Makati during her term.

Fifth and current Municipal Mayor of Alabel

VIC PAUL MOLINA SALARDA, MPA.
(2016 - current)

The current Municipal Mayor of Alabel was popularly known as Nonoy. Mayor Vic Paul Salarda was an educator turned politician. He popularized another town's tagline SMILE ALABEL. MaNoy or Mayor Nonoy's administration already proposed a house bill to make Alabel as a component city of Sarangani Province. Infrastructure and medical services were some of the priorities in his first term.
