The Legacy that shaped a Generation: Mayor Salarda’s Lasting Impact

After nearly nine years at the helm, Mayor Vic Paul M. Salarda is set to conclude his tenure as the chief executive of Alabel, Sarangani Province, in June 2025. Not seeking any elective post in the upcoming elections, Salarda leaves behind a legacy defined by innovation, good governance, and a strong commitment to public service.

Under his leadership, Alabel witnessed significant developments across multiple sectors. Major infrastructure projects, including new road linkages, were completed, while people’s associations and cooperatives were expanded to empower communities. Salarda also prioritized the welfare of Alabelians during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring timely interventions and support mechanisms.

Throughout his administration, Salarda pushed for innovations in economic governance, strengthened the local education system, revolutionized agricultural practices, and advanced social services for solo parents, persons with disabilities (PWDs), the LGBTQ+ community, fisherfolk, and the broader citizenry. He was recognized for using public funds effectively, addressing decade-old concerns in healthcare, emergency response, sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, cultural and heritage development, water supply, and transportation.

Alabel’s rise to prominence during Salarda’s administration is underscored by a series of prestigious awards, including a historic grandslam in the Seal of Good Local Governance, consistent recognition under the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping, Hall of Fame honors in the Red Orchid Awards for anti-smoking initiatives, and the AGILA Awards for Peace. His leadership also earned praise from former President Rodrigo Duterte and incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., further cementing his reputation at the national level.

Mayor Salarda, now regarded as the most decorated and outstanding mayor in Alabel’s history, successfully placed the municipality on the regional, national, and even international map. His leadership, marked by dedication and progressive vision, is expected to inspire future generations long after his term ends.
